In 1993 Larimore began to create his most innovative work, combining his love of organic material—wood and plant life—with sculpture. During this period he explored making objects that suggest function while being full of undulating natural and animal forms.

A blend of natural science and science fiction, Walking Vessel has a character all its own. Its body conveys a playful personality despite the absence of a “face” while its writhing appendages, or “legs,” provide the illusion of movement. This example was unveiled at the 1993 Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show, where its lighthearted humor and expert craftsmanship were widely admired.
