Vase with Biblical Scenes, including the Building of Solomon's Temple and the Creation of the Kingdom of Judah

Workshop of Orazio Fontana (Italian (active Urbino), c. 1510–1571)
This vase, one of a pair, is among the few pieces inscribed as from the workshop of Orazio Fontana. The decoration seen here is based, in part, on prints by the French artist Jacques Androuet Ducerceau, and the subjects are drawn from various print sources, including illustrations by Bernard Salomon for the Biblia Sacra and works by Hans Sebald Beham.
