Georg Jacob Felsing (German, 1802–1883) After a painting of 1833 by Eduard Julius Friedrich Bendemann (German, 1811–1889) Published by the Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westphalen zu Düsseldorf (founded 1829)

Eduard Bendemann was one of a number of younger German artists who perpetuated the neo-Renaissance style of painting and composition favored by members of the group of artists known as the Brotherhood of Saint Luke. Bendemann’s painting won him his first taste of fame at the age of twenty-one.
