Woman's Ensemble: Halter Top and Skirt

Spring 1999
Designed by Oscar de la Renta (American and Dominican, 1932–2014) Worn by Mrs. Martin Field (American, 1941–2013)
This Oscar de la Renta ready-to-wear ensemble pairs a fresh green halter with a skirt dripping with detail: a layer of delicate net not only sparkles with beads and sequins but is enlivened by three-dimensional embroidered leaves and dangling strings of beads. De la Renta grew up in the Dominican Republic, studied in Madrid, and worked in Paris before starting his business in New York. His designs effortlessly blend influences from his Latin roots with European luxury and American ease.
