Rampaging Elephant

c. 1620
Artist/maker unknown, Indian
The mahout's goad flies out of his hands and his turban unravels from his head as the elephant races forward, tail lashing and ornamental bells flying. This page appears to have been a working sketch. The figure at the lower right, the flowering tree, and the inscription on the reverse were probably added sometime after the artist drew the elephant and rider.
