Upstairs at the Gankirō Teahouse in Yokohama

1860
Utagawa Hiroshige II (Japanese, 1826–1869) Published by Owariya Seishichi, Kinrindō
The Gankirö teahouse was the largest establishment in the Miyozaki entertainment district and was the only house that specifically catered to both foreign and Japanese clients. The banquet room shown at the right in this triptych was often used for entertaining foreigners and was known as the "Fan Room," named for the images of Japanese fans painted on the sliding screens.
