Marie-Thérèse in Profile

1928
Pablo Ruiz y Picasso (Spanish, 1881–1973) Printed by Marchizet, Paris
Picasso depicted his mistress and muse Marie-Thérèse Walter in innumerable paintings, sculptures, drawings, and prints throughout their eight-year affair. They met in early 1927, when he was forty-five and she was seventeen. He approached her outside a Paris department store, captivated by her Grecian profile. In this compelling portrait, Picasso emphasizes her classical features and ideal beauty.
