Woman's Dress

Mid- 1950s
Designed by Ceil Chapman (American, 1912–1979)
Ceil Chapman's flattering, feminine designs were a favorite of film and stage stars; she specialized in soft chiffon "late-day" dresses like this example. Although made for the ready-to-wear market, the dress's bodice shows Chapman's skill in designing complex draping.
