The Universe

1951
Jacques Villon (Gaston Duchamp) (French, 1875–1963)
Even toward the end of his career, Villon reused techniques and styles he had practiced many years earlier. This print, which is based on a 1920 painting, shows that he returned to color aquatint, of which he had been a master since the 1890s, and that he also repeated the use of "constructive decomposition," a system that he had introduced in 1920.
