Muralist at Work (Diego Rivera)

1933
Lucienne Bloch (American (born Switzerland), 1909–1999) Printed by George C. Miller (American, 1894–1965)
Lucienne Bloch worked as Diego Rivera's assistant on various mural projects and she accompanied him and Frida Kahlo to Detroit in 1932. In Muralist at Work, made the next year in New York, Bloch has imagined Rivera painting a map of Central and North America, with his unseen hand positioned over Detroit. (No such mural is known to exist.) In the upper left, Bloch tucked in a small portrait of Kahlo, who is identifiable by her Mexican blouse and beads and her distinctive hairstyle and eyebrows.
