Bowl of a Helmet (Schischak or Zischägge)

Trophy of war from the former arsenal of the Ottoman sultans in the former church of Saint Irene, Constantinople (now Istanbul, Turkey)

The complete helmet also comprised a brim, cheek pieces, and nape defense, all made of steel and decorated to match the bowl. Helmets of this type were produced in large numbers in Germany for export to Eastern Europe.
