Screen

c. 1929-1931
Designed by Donald Deskey (American, 1894–1989) Made for Muriel Vanderbilt
Before he became one of the pioneers of American advertising design—creating such iconic brand logos as the Tide detergent bull’s-eye and the Duncan Hines crest—Donald Deskey was best known as the designer of the interior of Radio City Music Hall in New York City (1929–40). While working on that project, Deskey became fascinated with aluminum, a new man-made alloy of astonishing lightness and durability, which he also used to decorate this luxurious screen made for the apartment of New York socialite Muriel Vanderbilt.
