"His clothes are strict, pure and as severe as modern architecture," said the New York Times of Gustave Tassell. The Philadelphia-born designer showed his understated aesthetic and his tailoring skills in this coat-like wedding dress with concealed front buttons. Imbued with the simplicity of a monk’s robe, the dress’s plainness is relieved only by the fabric’s rippled moiré pattern and a high, bowed belt. Tassell also broke with tradition by adding a feather-trimmed hood instead of a veil.
