After visiting the Philadelphia Museum of Art in March 1959, Shiko Munakata made this ink painting for the Museum’s Japanese ceremonial teahouse, Sunkaraku (Evanescent Joys) (Philadelphia Museum of Art, 1928-114-1). The inscription reads, “Shiko while a guest in Pennsylvania, inspired by its pure charm,” and is followed by the artist’s square seal in red....
