Professionals at Rehearsal

1883
Thomas Eakins (American, 1844–1916)
This painting was especially important for Eakins because it was commissioned by the New York collector Thomas B. Clarke, one of the era's most prominent patrons of American art. When shown at an exhibition of Clarke's holdings in New York in 1884, the small picture was praised as "one of the strongest paintings in the [Clarke] collection."
