The coats of arms engraved on each vessel are those of the Lloyd family: Lloyd impaling Rousby. The Rococo-style decoration---consisting of spiral fluting and asymmetrical floral, foliate, and scroll motifs---represents the height of 1750s and 1760s London fashion. This style of ornamentation is echoed in the carved decoration on the furniture John and Elizabeth Cadwalader commissioned in 1770-71 for their Second Street town house in Philadelphia.
