Étude de têtes (The Dream and Lie of Franco)

c. 1939
Pablo Ruiz y Picasso (Spanish, 1881–1973)
The head studies made c. 1939, clearly refer back to the monstrous depiction of Franco that Picasso invented in his etchings. This shows the artist’s continued preoccupation and anxiety over Franco’s dictatorship at the conclusion of the disastrous war.
