Woman's Evening Dress

Fall 1982
Designed by James Galanos (American, 1924–2016) Worn by Mrs. Marilyn Evins
Although Galanos's slender, broad-shouldered silhouette rises to the neck in front, the wearer's back is provocatively revealed through patterned lace-a riff on his beaded tartan evening dress from 1957. This dress was worn by fashion publicist Marilyn Evins, who was frequently named to the Best Dressed List. Mrs. Evins narrated many of Galanos's fashion presentations in New York. Her husband, famed shoe designer David Evins, provided footwear for Galanos's collections.
