Fête galante

c. 1730
Pierre-Antoine Quillard (French, c. 1704–1733)
A fête galante---an outdoor party involving richly dressed men and women enjoying music, boating, and picnicking---was a popular subject in eighteenth-century French painting. A pupil of Antoine Watteau, who also painted such scenes, Quillard moved to Portugal in 1726 to work for the court of King John V.
