The Banquet in the House of Simon the Pharisee

1738
Pierre Hubert Subleyras (Italian (born France) 1699–1749) After a painting by Pierre Hubert Subleyras (Italian (born France) 1699–1749)
As a young artist at the Royal Academy in Paris, Pierre-Hubert Subleyras won the coveted Prix de Rome and moved to Italy in 1728, never to return to France. Subleyras completed the monumental painting The Banquet in the House of Simon the Pharisee in 1737 for the monastery of the Order of Saint John Lateran in Asti in the Piedmont region of Italy. This etching, the most ambitious of the nine prints executed by Subleyras, publicized the success of the painting, one of his first important commissions.
