Designed 1955

Masakichi Awashima was a leading figure in Japanese post-war design. His company produced both practical household items and examples of high design. The texture of this glass—called shizuku (dripping water)—emulates the rounded softness of old Japanese ceramic forms. Awashima created this style by casting glass in molds made from clay, stone, or metal to give the finished pieces a handcrafted quality.
