Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) was the most renowned of all English naval heroes. His greatest, and last, engagement came at Cape Trafalgar on October 21, 1805. While commanding the British forces from the ship Victory, Nelson defeated the combined fleets of France and Spain. He died from wounds suffered at the hands of the enemy shortly after being notified of his victory.
