Woman's Jacket

c. 1895
Designed by House of Worth, Paris (c. 1858–1952)
The subtle contrast of silk appliqué and reverse appliqué on this House of Worth jacket contributes to its striking silhouette. It was illustrated in Harper's Bazar (later known as Harper's Bazaar) in 1895 with its coordinating skirt. The jacket was worn by Mrs. Robert Garrett, wife of the president of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad.
