Chess Piece (Bishop)

c. 1775
Artist/maker unknown, Italian?
In the eighteenth century, chess was largely replaced by card playing among members of Europe's fashionable society. As a result, chess sets of the time (such as the one to which this bishop belonged) are often more decorative than functional.
