Samuel Amsler (German (born Switzerland), 1791–1849) After a drawing made in Rome in 1817 by Carl Barth (German, 1787–1853)

Samuel Amsler and Carl Barth, the two artists who collaborated on making this print, also included the initials of its subject, Carl Fohr (1795–1818), a gifted young painter who had drowned in the Tiber River in Rome at the age of twenty-two. The three artists’ initials are engraved in reverse at lower left: CB / CF / SA.
