Samuel Amsler and Carl Barth, the two artists who collaborated on making this print, also included the initials of its subject, Carl Fohr (1795–1818), a gifted young painter who had drowned in the Tiber River in Rome at the age of twenty-two. The three artists’ initials are engraved in reverse at lower left: CB / CF / SA.
