Made by the partnership of John and William Ridgway, Hanley, England (1814–1830)
Almshouses-public institutions for the homeless, aged, and mentally ill-were common in the nineteenth century. By 1900 those institutions, criticized for their bad sanitation and safety standards, had fallen from favor.
