Auguste Rodin (French, 1840–1917)

The raised lines visible along the figures in this plaster indicate that it was made from a multipart piece mold, which was produced in sections that were later recombined. Rodin ordinarily worked in clay (a delicate material that had to be kept wet) and had more durable plaster casts made of his working models in order to preserve his ideas.
