The Women's Committee of the Philadelphia Museum of Art organized its 2010 Photography Portfolio Competition in recognition of photography's broad significance as a contemporary art form, and to increase awareness of the museum's photography collection. The competition was designed to foster the discovery of new talent internationally.
The competition jurors were Tina Barney, photographer; Melissa Harris, editor-in-chief, Aperture magazine; and Peter Barberie, the museum's Brodsky Curator of Photographs, Alfred Stieglitz Center. They selected six works from submissions by seven hundred eighty-three artists and Mr. Barberie chose an additional "curator's choice" photograph, all of which will enter the museum's permanent collection.
