Contemporary Works by African-American Artists

May 20–August 16, 1992

A selection of work by 20th-century artists of African-American heritage will be on view May through August in the American and 20th-Century galleries. The installation of these works coincides with the exhibition of contemporary acquisitions from the Julius Bloch Memorial Fund. Bloch, a Philadelphia artist and teacher, was particularly supportive of African-American and working-class artists. Works installed include paintings, sculpture, photography and collage by such prominent artists as Romare Bearden, Jacob Lawrence, Horace Pippin and Beauford Delaney, along with contemporary artists such as Carrie Mae Weems, Lorna Simpson and Raymond Saunders.
