Woman's 'Conceptual Chic' Evening Ensemble: Dress and Overvest

1977-1978
Designed by Zandra Rhodes (English, born 1940)
Punk subculture and street fashion inspired English designer Zandra Rhodes to create her Conceptual Chic collection of 1977—the first time that punk elements appeared in glamorous, high-end designs. While well-known for her screen-printed textiles, here Rhodes used a solid raspberry knit, artfully sprinkling the long vest with rhinestones and holes finished with zigzag stitching and tiny beaded safety pins.
