This charming child's dress or frock is made of practical brown printed cotton, but the shiny glazed finish, achieved by applying a stiffener such as starch and then friction from hot rollers, would not have withstood many launderings. Simply cut, the dress was fastened with straight pins; it could have been worn by either a girl or boy, since at that time both wore skirts when young.
