Search by Accession Number

An accession number is a unique number assigned to each work in the collection. You can usually find this number on a label near the artwork in the galleries or with an image caption in a publication or brochure. The first four numbers usually tell you what year the work entered our collection.

About Our Online Collections

To serve our educational mission as caretakers of great collections, the Philadelphia Museum of Art is committed to offering broad access to our holdings. More than half of our collection of 240,000+ objects is available online, with updates added regularly. Our online collections reflect ongoing work conducted over the course of our 140-year history; you therefore may come across information that is incomplete, incorrect, or does not present current research. The objects themselves, produced by a range of artists across cultures and times, may contain offensive racial, gender, sexual, religious, and other language and imagery, and their records may contain offensive and discriminatory language, or reflect outdated ideas and analyses. We are actively working to address these issues, and we welcome your feedback as we strive to improve our data and our practices. Please contact us here, or email us at
