Peter Bentzon (American (born Virgin Islands), c. 1783 – after 1850)
African American silversmith Peter Bentzon learned his craft as an apprentice in Philadelphia from 1799 to 1806 and lived and worked on both the island of St. Croix and in Philadelphia. His hallmarks P. BENTZON and PB have been found on nine pieces of silver spanning the years 1815 to 1841. This presentation cup was given to Reverend Luckock when he left St. Criox to return to his native England after administering the episcopal parish in Christiansted.
