Woman's Trompe L'Oeil Pantyhose

1999 (Spring/Summer 2000)
Designed by Jean Paul Gaultier (French, born 1952) Made for Wolford (Austrian, founded 1950)
Although a master of couture techniques, French designer Jean Paul Gaultier has chosen to rebel, producing clothes that are part kitsch and part couture, including corset dresses and Madonna's iconic bustier. His redefinition of pantyhose, done for the famous Wolford hosiery company, wittily incorporates panties, a garter belt, and stocking tops, seams, and feet into the knit garment.
