Vase

1995
Ito Kei (Japanese, 1937–1999)
Ito Kei applied an ash glaze to the reddish stoneware body of this vessel, evoking the appearance of traditional Japanese Shigaraki and Iga wares. However, his addition of a metallic glaze and repetitive impressed designs, both inside and outside the vase, give this work a thoroughly contemporary look.
