Owl Plaque

Oscar Peterson (American, 1887–1951)

Decorative wall plaques comprise a large portion of the work produced by Michigan carver Oscar Peterson, second only to his production of fish decoys. These plaques depict a variety of forms: fish, birds, rabbits, squirrels, and race cars, among others. Carved in relief and painted with meticulous detail, most were made to sell as souvenirs to tourists, or were given to bait shops and hardware stores who already sold Peterson's decoys.
