Reverie (Träumerei)

1828
Georg Friedrich August Lucas (German (active Darmstadt), 1803–1863) Poet Friedrich von Matthisson (German, 1761–1831)
The demure young woman in Renaissance dress is seated on a terrace overlooking the Rhine River, with the ruins of Heidelberg Castle in the background. Some impressions of this rare lithograph include a line from a poem titled “Abendfeyer” (Evensong) by the German Romantic poet Friedrich von Matthisson (1761–1831) underneath the image: Wie still ist Gottes Schöpfung ringsumher! (How still is God’s creation all around!)
