Dark Round Form

1996
Gordon Baldwin (English, born 1932)
Gordon Baldwin is an explorer of the vessel. Basic structure, strong geometry, and symmetry drive the form of the objects he creates. Baldwin also allows chance and accidents in his work. For the artist, making is a serious and, at times, bleak business. Dark Round Form conveys messages of desolation, darkness, and silence, and, like most of his work, can be linked to a beach in Wales that he calls “the place of stones.” Like the weathered surface of these stones on the beach, the marks and colors of this object are integral to its form.
