Untitled

c. 1970-1973
Eddie Arning (American, 1898–1993)
Eddie Arning was a self-taught artist who created a large body of about two thousand drawings from about 1964-74, having spent most of his adult years institutionalized in Texas for bouts of depression and erratic behavior. His works are instantly recognizable for their brilliant sense of patterning on flat surfaces and for their imaginative and beautiful color combinations. Here a man harvests massive, heavy-headed yellow and red blossoms of some unidentifiable category.
