William Harper (American, born 1944)
William Harper considers his pieces of gold and enamel jewelry to be "objects of the unknown." His jewelry evokes ancient and exotic cultures. His unorthodox use of gold in an expressive, rather than finely crafted, manner further heightens the power of objects such as this brooch. Harper is renowned for his enamel work, most notably the cloisonné technique seen here, in which thin gold wires separate different enamel colors.
