Footed Dish

c. 1922
Designed by Dagobert Peche (Austrian, 1887–1923) Made by the Wiener Werkstätte (Vienna Workshops), Vienna (1903–1932)
The Wiener Werkstätte (Vienna Workshops) were devoted to producing well-designed, high-quality, handmade goods as alternatives to the poorly designed machine-made goods of the time. Founded in June 1903 by Kolman Moser, a painter and designer, and Josef Hoffmann, an architect and designer, the workshops were dedicated to giving designers and craftsmen equal status. This footed dish exemplifies the curvilinear, playful style that dominated the production of the workshops from about 1915 until they closed in 1932.
