Chair

1898-1899
Designed by Richard Riemerschmid (German, 1868–1957) Made by United Workshops for Art in Handicraft, Munich, Germany (1897–1907)
This chair was part of a suite of music room furniture commissioned by a Munich piano manufacturer. Its distinctive diagonal bracing allowed performers a full range of movement. With its simple, unornamented elegance, the chair represents the more functional aspect of the Munich Art Nouveau style.
