This title page introduces a series of prints depicting the life of Seth, and features the skeletons of Seth’s parents, Adam and Eve. Eve holds the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge, while Adam grips a scroll that reads, “You are dust and unto dust you shall return.”
Publishers of engravings frequently issued moralizing prints in series, a practice that encouraged collectors to buy complete sets instead of single works.
