1962, cast of 1951 copper-electroplated plaster original
Marcel Duchamp (American (born France), 1887–1968)
While secretly working "underground" on his final masterpiece, Étant donnés, Duchamp claimed that he had given up art for chess. Mysterious objects nevertheless emerged, hinting that the artist was indeed at work on another project.
