Mask in the Form of a Tiger Head

c. 1700
Artist/maker unknown, Japanese
The face of this tiger is executed with bold features intended to highlight the wild beast’s ferocity. With the back hollowed out only slightly, this mask was possibly made to be hung on a wall as a talismanic symbol.
