Northern Night

1930
Rockwell Kent (American, 1882–1971)
On his voyage to Greenland in 1929, Kent was shipwrecked along the coast of an arctic fjord and spent three months in the company of the native Greenlanders. In this limited-edition wood engraving, Kent portrays himself sleeping within the shelter of a rock ledge shortly after the shipwreck. In 1930, Kent published an account of this trip as the illustrated book N by E.
