School House...Go Slow

1917
Rockwell Kent (American, 1882–1971)
This is one of a number of drawings that Kent provided for The Modern School, a monthly magazine dedicated to libertarian and socialist ideas in education that was edited by Carl Zigrosser, Kent’s longtime friend and the founding curator of the Museum’s department of prints and drawings, from 1917 to 1919. Kent executed this drawing on fabric due to the scarcity of high-quality paper during World War I.
