Brazier

1694-1699
Johannis Nys (American, 1671–1734)
Johannis Nys, one of the earliest Huguenot (French Protestant) silversmiths working in Philadelphia, made these ornate braziers by using traditional Dutch and French cutwork motifs. Such refined silver serving pieces, fashioned after the latest European and English designs, were accessible to only the wealthiest patrons of Philadelphia.
