Casual Ablutions

1931
Peggy Bacon (American, 1895–1987) Portrait of Alexander Brook (American, 1898–1980)
Here Peggy Bacon shows her husband Alexander Brook (1898-1980) engaged in the personal ritual of washing: "I would like to do one [caricature] of Alex, but can't get over the idea that he is beautiful, which hampers me in an understanding of the comedy of his countenance." Bacon seems to have resolved this problem by depicting her subject from the back.
