Chess Piece (Knight)

19th century
Artist/maker unknown, Burmese
In sittuyin, the traditional chess of Burma (now Myanmar), each player has a king, a general, two rooks, two knights, two elephants, and eight pawns. This piece is exceptional for its size and colorful decoration. The mounted camel is probably a variant form of the sittuyin elephant (the equivalent of a bishop in Western chess).
